Lani's Camden

LANI'S CAMDEN

Where do the locals go?

Wine and Cheese Sunset on top of Mt. Battie
If you ever take in a sunset at the top of Mt. Battie, you will want to move to Camden. From the turret style observation deck, you can see islands, mountains and the sea. A map points out the islands and mainland harbors from left to right. When you go, take a picnic blanket, pickup a bottle of wine and a local cheese sampling from Megunticook Market, then take in the sunset!

Picnic Hike to Maiden's Cliff
Fall is beautiful but any time of year will do, when you climb to Maiden's Cliff. Hike the trail under the canopy of evergreens and you'll pass streams running down the mountain, boulders from the cliffs and birds singing in the forest. When you arrive at the top of the trail, the trees will open up and you'll be standing on the top of a huge granite mountain with a view down to Lake Megunticook with its summer homes and boaters making their way around the islands and private coves that fill the lake. Wondering why it is called Maiden's Cliff?

Sail a Schooner
Cruising the coast on a windjammer is a unique experience. Whether you go for a day cruise to see the coast, catch a glimpse of a lighthouse and take in the wind, or sail for a week around the islands, raising the sails and cooking in the galley, you'll want to make it an annual event. The salty captain with crew in tow may try to recruit you and you'll probably enjoy the adventure.
