Argiolas Vermentino: Great with Seafood

Monday, June 11th, 2007

A perfect wine for seafood is something clean, crisp and earthy that complements the flavor of fish and shellfish. Look to a vermentino for just the right flavor. A what?

Vermentino is a grape grown in Sardinia, the island off the west coast of Italy. As you can imagine, the sea air deposits minerals and salts into the soils on the island resulting in a very high mineral content in anything grown on the island, including grapes. Argiolas Vermentino di Sardegna "Costamolino" has a clean, crisp nose of citrus, pear and hints of herb. The finish is flavorful, full of fruit and well balanced. The granite-rich soil lends a mineral component making this wine a perfect complement to fish and shellfish.

Best of all, this wine is a great value at under $15.
